Cogmed Working Memory Training is an evidence-based program for helping children, adolescents and adults improve attention by training their working memory. The program is based on strong scientific research, is delivered under the supervision of one of our Cogmed Qualified Coaches, and can be done either in the convenience of your home or at our office.
In my experience treating children and adolescents over the last 15 years I have come to believe that medication should not, in most cases, be the first course of treatment for ADHD and other cognitive conditions that rely on the brain's Working Memory.
In fact, the American Academy of Pediatrics has issued guidelines for the treatment of ADHD and similar conditions recommending "parent and/or teacher administered behavior therapy as the first line of treatment". Only when that approach fails and moderate to severe behavior problems persist should medication be considered.
So I began to research what I could offer that would create the best outcome for my patients - and what I found was Cogmed. The Cogmed system is now offered in more than 30 countries and 10 languages and can help children, adults and seniors.
Working Memory is the ability to keep information in your mind for a short time, maintain focus and ignore distractions, remember instructions and start and finish tasks. Working memory is crucial for math, reading comprehension, complex problem solving and test taking. Improved working memory capacity improves attention and impulse control. 8 out of 10 users who complete the training show measurable improvements.
Aging adults can improve their quality of life. The ability to regain the focus they had in their younger years through training will enable them to stay active and independent for longer.
